Happy 1 day bday D.D.
Saturday, July 5th, 2008As I begin this post, its 1243. D.D.’s 24 hour birthday. So happy 24 hours dd!
Amazing what can happen in such a short time. First up: Mommy and baby are still doing fine. I can’t recall what I’ve said so far, and what I haven’t. So I’ll talk about what I can remember.
First, the stats you’ve all been waiting for:
Birthdate - 00:43CDT, July 4th, 2008
Weight - 7lbs 7.75oz
Length - 20.5in
Name - D. D. Meadows1
After she joined us on this crazy earth, dd was taken directly to the NICU2 as a precaution. During the last few hours of labor, C started to run a bit of a fever. Not a big deal, medically. But can still be a sign of things. So they did that just to be safe. But try telling the parents of their first child that they won’t have that child within arms reach, especially on their first night. I went with her, while C was looked after. I must’ve looked like a fool just staring at this little bundle of joy, but I couldn’t help it. C joined me about 0245, and we both took on the fool role.
We passed out, separately from dd, and in separate “beds” (she had a bed, I had a chair) at about 0400. If you were counting from yesterday, then you’ll notice that I’ve been up at that point for 26 hours straight. C is at 28, with some naps here and there… during labor… Needless to say, we slept hard. Until 6. Tests and feeding. A sign of things to come?
Back to bed at 0830. Up at 1130 (I think). C was up once before during that time with the nurses, but I apparently slept through it. Lights on and talking, and I’m dead to the world in the corner on a fold out chair. Reminds me of some of the partying days. Lunch, showers, somewhat dressed, and up to see dd by 1230 I think. At some point between 0830 and 1130, dd was moved from the NICU to the Children’s IC ward. There were 5 little ones that needed the NICU beds more than our healthy gal.
Mc, Jc, Bj, C(2) and family surprised us about 230 I think. dd was passed around and oogled. She’s been just the best damn little girl so far. Hugs n kisses and gifts were given.
After they departed, Oz, Angel, and G&G showed up. 4 generations in one room. More handing around the room and oogling. Oz gave c the best damn card I’ve ever seen, period. Sonja and LoD showed up shortly after for their oogle fix. I don’t recall the time they all took off (6?).
C ate dinner, then hopped into the tub. I went to BK and picked up some food myself. We spent some more time oogling our little daughter. Had some words for the 2nd shift nursing staff, then gave dd a bath. After another feeding, we put her to bed, then c to bed.
Tonight, I sleep in the same room as dd.
