Wrap-Up post: The Birth of DD!

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

As dd sleeps on my lap, I figured I had time to wrap up the hospital posts.

26 hours of no sleep. I can’t even begin to describe what C went through. The ups and downs on the NICU and Children’s Hospital. Sleepless nights. Uncomfortable beds.

What an amazing ride!

If I update/add anything about our stay, I’ll surely update this post.

39 Weeks, and a baby!

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

According to the little floating thingy on my iGoogle page, we are 39 weeks pregnant with 8 days left to go.

I think it might be wrong. :D

Mommy and baby are doing great. We all got a bit more rest last night. After breakfast, we spent the morning with dd, just hangin out. C was able to take dd to the 1030 breastfeeding class. Since no dudes are allowed, I went to wash the car (that was on the list for this weekend). Got back in time for the Babies A-Z class, where we were able to give dd a bath. It was great being able to spend so much time with my gals outside of the children’s unit.

After class, we went back for dd’s last round of anti-biotics. Since it was the last round, and we were at 36 hours, we started asking nicely. All we really wanted was to have her stay down in the nursery near us. Not up a floor and over a ton of hallways. Sadly, they could not accommodate our request. But, we did work out a compromise: She’s being transferred back to the NICU.

The NICU is roughly half the walking distance. We’d feel more comfortable, as the nurses and staff inside there have more experience working with newborns. Can’t thank them enough for helping us out.

C took a much appreciated shower and bath. I just dropped her off at the NICU to feed dd. We just missed the call and the transport. Must’ve crossed paths a handful of times there.

C has been given a clean bill of health. She is free to be discharged with dd, as long as dd gets discharged before tomorrow afternoon (insurance companies are businesses, after all). dd is doing just fine. She’s eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom as expected. Her temperature and color are great. We passed the 24 and 36 hour points and all is well. Once we cross the 48 hour point, we’ll be golden.

Still can’t believe it: we’re parents. I keep saying it, over and over and over again….

Ain’t it cool?

I’m not asking you. I’m reminding me. :) 1

  1. special note on the pics: We haven’t decided, yet, how much we will show of dd publicly. Just as I mask her name, I also mask her image. I can’t control what’s on the net about me these days. But I can her, and the family. If we decide to show more, I assure you, we will flood this place. Thanks for understanding! []
