DD Week 9: Immunizations & the Fair

According to my calculations, calendar, and now my “Ages & Stages” email, DD is 9 weeks old today. Yesterday, she was exactly 2 months. Where does the time go? Mommy and baby are doing great. Don’t tell mommy, but dd feels like she’s growing a good bit. That’ll be our little secret, okay?

Today will be a super hard day. Today is round 1 of the vaccinations (if you don’t include the ones at the hospital). We’ve both been really torn on which ones we’re okay with, and which ones we “conscientiously oppose”1. One one hand, we know they can help (polio, Hepatitis B, Rotovirus). But on the other hand, there is a growing group of people that believe its the vaccinations that are causing the rise in the number of Autism cases. The CDC has stated that they support the IOM’s findings: “the evidence favors rejection of a causal relationship between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism”. I hate government speak. “favors rejection”? Why can’t they release a study that just says “its safe”.

Saturday, C and I went to the Minnesota State Fair. It was hard, leaving dd behind with grandmom Oz. But we both knew it would be good for her, Oz, and us. Every now and then, mommy and daddy need to get away for a bit. We had a grand old time. We ate a ton of unhealthy, deep fried foods on a stick. Pronto Pups, Gizmo, Rice Burger, Mac and Cheese on a stick, Chicago Style Hot Dog(!!!). That’s one of the biggest perks to going to the fair: the food. So many choices, so little time. Check out the gallery below.

Sunday, we went over to G&G’s to help clean things up. Just had to get rid of some old heavy stuff. I can’t explain how theraputic it is to break things apart with a sledge hammer. After a productive day there, we decided it was time to just hang out. Continued the hanging out all day Monday. The rest of the week was uneventful at the house. C cooked some fantastic dinners all week. A nice quiet week with my best gals. One item of note: Wednesday, we had our first ever vibrating dinner. The seat we have for dd haas a vibrating attachment. Traditionally, she’s hated it. But Wednesday night, during dinner, it was the only thing that calmed her down. Go figure.

Today, after the doc, we have something special planned. I’ll share that with you after we get away with it.

Hope everyone had a good week.

  1. if you conscientiously oppose a vaccination, the state lets you get a legal waiver from the school/day care requirements, per http://health.state.mn.us []
