DD Week 8: A friday, a week, back to work

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

According to my calculations, calendar, and now my “Ages & Stages” email, DD was 8 weeks old Friday. Almost 2 months! Wow! Mommy and dd are doing fantastically. I’ve had to get to know her all over again this past week. She smiles all the time. A couple times this week, she’s called me at work, just to giggle. If you don’t have a kid, but you’re planning on it, wait til you get that phone call. So, so cool.

Let me try to catch you up on the past couple of weeks. We’ve been super busy, super tired, super happy.

DD: Week 7

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

According to my calculations, calendar, and now my “Ages & Stages” email, DD was 7 weeks old yesterday. Mommy and dd are doing fantastically. This whole thing will never cease to amaze me. She’s really starting to develop a personality. She definitely knows who mommy is, and most times knows me (the plague of every working father). But I’m okay with that. I want her to know at least one of us really well. I’m glad that’s mommy.

Unfortunately, I don’t have alot to report. I’ve barely seen her (I’ll explain later), and the time I have, I didn’t take inventory. :) She seems bigger than this time last week. I did measure her last Saturday (21.5 inches). I’ll make sure to have a new measurement for you next week (scouts honor).

Last night, Montgomery had their annual “Movie In The Park”. Its a movie on a giant inflatable screen, played in the park outside of the high school. Always a fun time. This year, it was Radio (with Cuba Gooding Jr.). DD’s first! I know she loved it, and will continue to love it!

I apologize for not writing much lately. I think my brain’s overwhelmed. But I promise, I will get back to writing soon.

Monday: The Precursor

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Well, Monday started off like many others: Noise. Tap. Snortle. Stumble. Pick Up noisy creature. Console. Love.

But today was a little different. The first difference was that its only 355am. Even the alarm isn’t awake yet. But I struggled on. dd’s lungs are becoming so well developed. I head to the fridge and grab her bottle. As I close the refridgerator door, the crying stops. Not wanting to test the theory of if her crying is tied to the door, I put the bottle back, and just hang out with her on the sofa, staring at her. She’s beautiful, like her mother. Simply beautiful. I’d say I’m partial here, but we’ve both heard it a hundred times from a hundred people, reassuring us that they’re not just saying it. After a few too many times, that does go to your head. So I believe them as I continue to stare at our perfect baby. This week will be a hard one on us all.

While I leave you in suspense, wish Oz a speedy recovery. Seems she either has a bad cold, or ebola. I’m hoping for the cold.

Have a great week, everyone! Lots to do. I’ll post it up Friday or Saturday.

DD: Week 6

Friday, August 15th, 2008

According to my calculations, dd is 6 weeks old today! I’m still in awe of this all. She’s smiling, almost on demand now. And I can tell she has something to say. She’s tried in several extinct languages so far, but has yet to figure out english. I’ll give her some more time. She’s also starting to do that “tracking” thing with her eyes. When we’re dancing, or just walking around the house, we can track her gaze. Pretty neat!

Unfortunately, she’s also learning how to retain the air, but not the food. Hopefully, she’ll figure out soon that letting the gas out and keeping the food in is both more comfortable and filling.

Here’s how her 5th week in this life of ours panned out (trying to cut down on the size of the main page here for the bandwidth challenged).
