Saturday, we finally started our baby registry at Target and Babies R Us. When we did our wedding registry, we just plain had fun. We knew we had a few things we “needed” (Towel, sheets, dinnerware, etc), and the rest we just wanted (big screen tv, though I could put that under need now). It was straightforward and fun.
Registering for a babyshower is a little different. Don’t get me wrong, we still had a blast. But we weren’t 100% sure on what we needed, nor even wanted. So alot of discussion and decision had to be made during the process. I think we did pretty good, once we figured out what we were doing.
Target initially started as a nuisance. We went to the Target in Burnsville to start things up, but they were out of scanners. So we headed to Edina1. At first, they were out of scanners too (yes, I’m serious). But just as we were about to give up, a gal came back with one. Yay!!!
So, of course, we prioritized and did our own shopping first. Then started in on the fun. That “beep” the scanner gives is always such a reassuring beep. No big screens, laptops, or other toys for daddy2. A handful of DVDs, a stroller, a high chair, a mattress, baby monitor (I actually had to choose based off frequency). Onsies, towels, washcloths, bottles, blankies…. I could go on and on. Feeling satisfied, we headed over to Babies R Us.
Now here is where things started to go downhill. C was already beat. The gal that signed us up was… inattentive towards us. But we continued. When you’re going through this process, be prepared to be overwhelmed. Babies R Us has that effect on new parents. You’d be amazed how many parents walk in with that deer in the headlights look (myself included). But we still made the most of it.
The crib area was great, but expensive! Jinkies! Didn’t realize how easily one can drop $1500 on furniture for the nursery! But there were some gorgeous units there.
Found a bunch of neat things. My favorite find were the “chewable” versions of some Dr. Seuss books.
While we were scanning, a pretty wicked storm came though, complete with hail. Nothing more reassuring than hail on a metal roof. After the storm passed, we finished up and decided it was time for dinner.
Originally, we had plans to meet up with the dynamic duo (Mc and Jc) to go watch the swing dancers in IGH (I think the funksters were going to be there as well, but I’m not sure). But after a day like this day, we decided that dinner and home were a better option. So we took a rain check (no pun intended) on the dance, and settle for some absolutely terrible service at Bennigan’s in Bloomington (Saturday, about 745P). Another storm looked to be on its way when we arrived at the resturant.
But it ended up staying north of us. Stopped at JCP to make a return, then down to WalMart for another return. Quite a difference in their return policies.
Made it home in time to show Oz our registries, discuss cribs, and get to bed. Fun day. Long, but fun nonetheless!
