Oy… what a week it has been so far. I think we’re still recuperating from the weekend.

Tonight is baby class #3. The all important video will be seen. I have my popcorn ready. C has her escape route planned. I think we’re ready.

We’ve begun seriously shopping for Cribs and Changing tables. Figured there’s no real need for a dresser, as we have them already built into the closet (thank you W. family, for your incredible attention to detail!).

Busy weekend ahead of us too. Painting, a drive, some dinner, more painting, less sleep, and Memorial Day.

Lastly, I’ve uploaded ALOT to flickr. Most importantly, the San Antonio pics are up.

I think that’s about it for now. I’ll post something of more substance a bit later this week/weekend.

The weekend

As I begin this post in my office, I listen to MPR a little quieter than I normally do. So the more I type, the less I hear. I do this because I know the vent just above my head allows sound to travel into the dining room, just a tad muffled. Normally, that’s not an issue at 4 in the morning because our bedroom is at the other end of the house. But for the next 3 weeks, our bedroom is the dining room.

Friday, I had off (perk of my job), so I took care of “stuff”. Haircut, doc, mow the lawns. Helped Oz pick out a new lawnmower (then subsequently took it for a test drive). Received a few compliments on my attire as well as my cardiovascular system. Normal “stuff”, and a little bit of prep work. Twas a busy day.

Saturday morning, we went up to NP for their annual garage sales. Last year, we came home with a bunch of books, miscellaneous treasures, and a lawnmower. We were looking for home improvement items, toys for us, books, neat things, etc. Nothing in particular. Just enjoying the time together.

This year, our shopping list has changed quite a bit, but the time was still enjoyed. Now we’re looking for baby items. It took a little getting used to at first, but I got there during the LD sales a few weeks ago (far less fruitful). Our treasures found their way to the back of Oz’s van (and the seat, and the floor). Books, books and books. Onsies, some clothes for C, gender neutral baby outfits, miscellaneous baby related items. Looking at my desk, I see 3 things I bought myself. Quite a difference from last years outing. And I love it. :) I’m still in shock and awe. C is getting so big. Cuter by the minute. :)

We got back to the house, had lunch, and prepared to get down to business. The Lib was coming down from the big city to give me a hand turning our house upside down. After his arrival at 3, I showed him around the house (first time here) and we got down to business.

C cooked a fantabulous dinner that we had about 8 or so. She went to bed around 1030 I think. By midnight, our night was done. I set The Lib up in the scrapbooking room (complete with a 4×8 sheet of cedar plywood as a shade) and went to bed myself.

Though not our original plan, we had successfully achieved the following by the end of Saturday:

  • Moved the bedroom to the dining room
  • Packed up the scrapbooking room and stored that in the basement
  • Moved a spare bed over to Oz’s house
  • FINALLY fixed the table at Oz’s that I broke over the holidays
  • Taped off the master bedroom (The Lib appears to be quite good at it!)

Up at 6 on Sunday. C surprised me by getting up at 7. We kicked back and watched CSI(s) and chit chatted. Got back to work about 10 or so (I think?). Once she left for the big city (11ish I believe), The Lib and I got back to business. By 5 or so (can you tell I really have no sense of time?), we had the following done:

  • Sanded and cleaned up the spare bedroom (Well, ML did the sanding… ALOT of sanding)
  • Primed the walls that needed it in the master bedroom
  • Primed the areas under the windows in the master and nursery
  • Cleaned up most everything else.

The Lib departed about 5 and I went to let the dogs out over at Oz’s. When I got back, I was still motivated (somewhat), so I started priming the spare bedroom. Got the ceiling and 1 wall done. Cleaned up the house and ate dinner at about 845. C and Oz got home about 915.

All in all, a very productive weekend. I couldn’t have done it without The Lib’s help.

As we worked through the weekend, I kinda felt that I was doing things like both of my grandfathers did: slow and steady. I recall both of my Grandfathers doing things slowly, deliberately, and only once (just as Dad does). C can tell you I’m good at the slow part, and I’m getting better at the Deliberate part.

Now to figure out how they did that “Only Once” part.

32 weeks and some paint

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Today, the floating thingy on my iGoogle page has reminded us that we are 32 weeks pregnant. Baby and Mommy are doing just fine. Doc this week said everything is on track, and our due date hasn’t changed. The little one has been moving like crazy (especially at night, when we’re trying to get to sleep). Either we have a drummer or a runner on our hands. Last night, I was able to almost “caress” the baby. How cool is that?

In class, we learned some relaxation techniques. During the exercises, I swore C was going to fall asleep. She didn’t…. but I nearly did. During the movie, we (well, okay, I) realized that having a baby is nothing like it is in the movies. Why can’t it be that way?

Jane: “Honey, its time”

John: “Holy crap! Let’s go!”

bumpy cab ride/hurried car drive to the hospital. Jane screams in anger. Arrive at hospital.

Jane (or John): “We’re having a baby!”

Doctor: “Congratulations! It’s a boy/girl”

They never really cover all that silly other stuff. Like the stages of labor, or the walking around the hospital waiting, or rocking on the “birth ball“. Knocked Up did a decent job of trying with a 30 second scene, but that’s about all I can remember. I guess the entertainment value of labor really isn’t high enough for the screenwriters.

I’m finding, the further we get into pregnancy, the less I was really paying attention to the numbers. Instead, I paid attention to her tummy, using that as my gauge to the progress. 10 weeks, 20 weeks, 31 weeks… All just numbers. But this past week, in our birthing class, I was reminded that at 37 weeks, we’re full term. 37 weeks. Another number. 5 weeks. 35 days.

The guest bedroom should be ready for visitors by the end of next weekend. The nursery will be ready for furniture in 2 weeks. Suddenly, 5 weeks becomes prevalent.

Had an epiphany yesterday while clearing the jungle. For years (but especially the past few months) our weekends have been as busy as our weekdays. Projects of various states of completion, hurtling towards completion on an accelerate schedule. Once they’re done and the baby’s here, what will we do with my time?

I’m sure something will come up. ;)

Bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse1

  1. its a lyric. In no way does it reflect how I feel. The line has just been stuck in my head for a few weeks []

Quick update

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Howdy everyone,

First up, mommy and baby are still doing great. Doc said everything was looking good. Also had our second birthing class Wednesday. I’ll cover that and more on Saturday’s post.

But I didn’t want to leave you all hanging. So, I’ve updated a couple of small things.

  • I’ve added 2 more pics to the progress page: linky1
  • I’ve added a couple of pics up on Flickr.

rio

We’ve both been pretty dang busy the past week here, so we haven’t had a chance to go through the 700 pics taken in San Antonio. Funny how that works. But I promise, we will soon!

Stay tuned. next up: 32 weeks!

  1. sorry, but I had to protect that page. Ask me for the password if you don’t already have it in your email somewhere []
