As I begin this post in my office, I listen to MPR a little quieter than I normally do. So the more I type, the less I hear. I do this because I know the vent just above my head allows sound to travel into the dining room, just a tad muffled. Normally, that’s not an issue at 4 in the morning because our bedroom is at the other end of the house. But for the next 3 weeks, our bedroom is the dining room.
Friday, I had off (perk of my job), so I took care of “stuff”. Haircut, doc, mow the lawns. Helped Oz pick out a new lawnmower (then subsequently took it for a test drive). Received a few compliments on my attire as well as my cardiovascular system. Normal “stuff”, and a little bit of prep work. Twas a busy day.
Saturday morning, we went up to NP for their annual garage sales. Last year, we came home with a bunch of books, miscellaneous treasures, and a lawnmower. We were looking for home improvement items, toys for us, books, neat things, etc. Nothing in particular. Just enjoying the time together.
This year, our shopping list has changed quite a bit, but the time was still enjoyed. Now we’re looking for baby items. It took a little getting used to at first, but I got there during the LD sales a few weeks ago (far less fruitful). Our treasures found their way to the back of Oz’s van (and the seat, and the floor). Books, books and books. Onsies, some clothes for C, gender neutral baby outfits, miscellaneous baby related items. Looking at my desk, I see 3 things I bought myself. Quite a difference from last years outing. And I love it.
I’m still in shock and awe. C is getting so big. Cuter by the minute.
We got back to the house, had lunch, and prepared to get down to business. The Lib was coming down from the big city to give me a hand turning our house upside down. After his arrival at 3, I showed him around the house (first time here) and we got down to business.
C cooked a fantabulous dinner that we had about 8 or so. She went to bed around 1030 I think. By midnight, our night was done. I set The Lib up in the scrapbooking room (complete with a 4×8 sheet of cedar plywood as a shade) and went to bed myself.
Though not our original plan, we had successfully achieved the following by the end of Saturday:
- Moved the bedroom to the dining room
- Packed up the scrapbooking room and stored that in the basement
- Moved a spare bed over to Oz’s house
- FINALLY fixed the table at Oz’s that I broke over the holidays
- Taped off the master bedroom (The Lib appears to be quite good at it!)
Up at 6 on Sunday. C surprised me by getting up at 7. We kicked back and watched CSI(s) and chit chatted. Got back to work about 10 or so (I think?). Once she left for the big city (11ish I believe), The Lib and I got back to business. By 5 or so (can you tell I really have no sense of time?), we had the following done:
- Sanded and cleaned up the spare bedroom (Well, ML did the sanding… ALOT of sanding)
- Primed the walls that needed it in the master bedroom
- Primed the areas under the windows in the master and nursery
- Cleaned up most everything else.

The Lib departed about 5 and I went to let the dogs out over at Oz’s. When I got back, I was still motivated (somewhat), so I started priming the spare bedroom. Got the ceiling and 1 wall done. Cleaned up the house and ate dinner at about 845. C and Oz got home about 915.

All in all, a very productive weekend. I couldn’t have done it without The Lib’s help.
As we worked through the weekend, I kinda felt that I was doing things like both of my grandfathers did: slow and steady. I recall both of my Grandfathers doing things slowly, deliberately, and only once (just as Dad does). C can tell you I’m good at the slow part, and I’m getting better at the Deliberate part.
Now to figure out how they did that “Only Once” part.
